Mouthwashing Steam: PC Requirements and Buying Guide

Is Mouthwashing Available on Steam?

The Mouthwashing Steam release drops you into a psychological horror story aboard a wrecked space freighter with no rescue coming. You can play it on Windows, with full controller support and 18 Steam achievements. Check the hardware requirements and control options before joining the Tulpar’s five stranded crew members.

Developed by Wrong Organ and published by CRITICAL REFLEX, Mouthwashing launched on Steam on September 26, 2024. It is a single-player, first-person horror game centered on the crew’s deteriorating situation and fractured history.

You can buy Mouthwashing on Steam. The Steam version supports Windows; it does not have native macOS or Linux versions.

The Xbox release has a separate date: October 29, 2026. That launch covers Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox on PC, so it should not be confused with the earlier Steam release.

The Xbox version includes Xbox Play Anywhere, Xbox achievements, and Xbox cloud saves. Its supported ways to play include Xbox Cloud Gaming, with cloud play included in Game Pass Premium and Ultimate; streaming through Game Pass Essential requires purchasing the game. It also supports Xbox presence and Xbox clubs.

PC System Requirements

Mouthwashing requires 3 GB of available storage at both the minimum and recommended specifications. The recommended configuration raises the processor, graphics card, and memory requirements, with RAM increasing from 8 GB to 16 GB.

Compare your processor and graphics card with these requirements alongside your RAM. Meeting the storage requirement alone does not tell you whether your computer meets the rest of the specifications.

Keep the two hardware tiers separate when checking an older PC: the minimum configuration uses a GTX 560, while the recommended configuration calls for a GTX 1050.

Controller Support and Input Settings

Full controller support lets you play with a gamepad. Xbox-compatible XInput controllers are supported, and wired PlayStation controllers also have support, including PlayStation button prompts.

  • Mouse sensitivity adjustment.
  • Controller sensitivity adjustment.
  • Inverted Y-axis options for mouse and controller.
  • Keyboard and mouse button prompts.
  • Controller hotplug support.

Keyboard and controller remapping are unavailable in the game’s settings. Adjust sensitivity and your preferred Y-axis direction before settling into the story, especially if you usually rely on a customized control layout.

Achievements, Sharing, and Languages

The Steam version includes 18 achievements, with names such as Taking Notes, Wasteful, and Cheater. Steam Trading Cards and Family Sharing are also supported.

If you want to approach the story without advance knowledge, leave achievement descriptions until after your initial playthrough. The achievement list also includes I Hope This Hurts, Go Home, Daisuke, Swansea, Anya, Jimmy, and Curly.

Language support includes English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. It also includes Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish for Spain and Latin America, and Portuguese for Brazil and Portugal.

What Kind of Horror Should You Expect?

The Tulpar’s predicament gives the story its pressure: power will run out within six months, and food will run out sooner. Starvation, isolation, and the crew’s relationships drive the horror as their circumstances worsen.

Captain Curly survives with catastrophic injuries and cannot speak, leaving him dependent on the remaining crew. The story explores their fractured history while psychological scares make perception increasingly unreliable.

Pay attention to your surroundings and how the crew members interact. Environmental details contribute to the storytelling as you explore the dying ship and piece together the crew’s fractured history. Expect a bleak narrative built around disturbing discoveries and the people trapped aboard the freighter.
