Mouthwashing Daisuke: His Story, Swansea, and Fate

Who Is Daisuke in Mouthwashing?

Daisuke brings warmth to a ship where trusting the wrong person can be fatal. If you’re looking up Mouthwashing Daisuke, he’s the rookie maintenance intern working under Swansea aboard the Tulpar. His desire to make himself useful gives his relationship with his mentor its emotional weight—and makes him vulnerable when the crew’s situation falls apart.

Major story spoilers follow, including Daisuke’s death.

Daisuke is on his first voyage, learning from a mechanic whose patience often runs short. His optimism stands out against Swansea’s bluntness and the growing hostility aboard the stranded freighter. He lacks experience, but he keeps trying to contribute even as the crew’s options disappear.

That distinction matters when reading his character: inexperience makes him dependent on other people’s judgment, while his willingness to help gives those people considerable influence over him.

Why Daisuke Took the Internship

Daisuke never wanted this assignment. His parents pushed him into it because he had been drifting through young adulthood without a clear direction. They hoped that time away from home, with more structure and responsibility, would help him find his way.

He initially struggles with being aboard the Tulpar. Eventually, though, he decides to face the internship with determination and make his parents proud.

This background gives his cheerful behavior more depth. Daisuke has reasons to be unhappy, yet he makes an effort to participate. Beneath the enthusiasm is someone trying to turn an unwanted situation into something meaningful.

His parents’ financial support also shapes how others see him. Jimmy treats that safety net as an advantage when the crew learns Pony Express is shutting down. But having somewhere to return to does little for Daisuke once the ship is stranded.

Daisuke and Swansea’s Relationship

Swansea’s treatment of Daisuke can seem harsh. He criticizes his intern’s lack of practical ability, and their working relationship carries the friction you would expect between a weary professional and an inexperienced newcomer.

As their story unfolds, Swansea’s concern becomes clearer. He guards the utility room, where the last functioning cryogenic pod remains, intending to preserve that chance of survival for Daisuke.

The pod changes how their earlier interactions read. Behind Swansea’s irritation is an investment in the younger man’s future. He sees a life that could still continue beyond the Tulpar.

Pay attention to the difference between Swansea’s abrasive dialogue and his protective decisions. Daisuke wants his approval, while Swansea struggles to express affection in ways his intern can easily recognize. Jimmy exploits that gap by presenting a dangerous task as a chance to make Swansea proud.

What Happens to Daisuke?

Daisuke’s fatal injury follows Jimmy’s attempt to enter the locked medical room after Anya shuts herself inside.

The sequence unfolds like this:

1. Jimmy recruits Daisuke into a plan to incapacitate Swansea with a drink spiked with strong alcohol.
2. They take Swansea’s key and enter the utility room.
3. Jimmy persuades Daisuke to crawl through the damaged vent leading toward medical.
4. Daisuke suffers severe wounds during the passage but manages to open the medical room from inside.
5. Jimmy applies mouthwash to his injuries, worsening an already desperate situation.
6. Swansea finds Daisuke suffering and kills him with the emergency axe to end his pain.

Jimmy’s manipulation is central to this sequence. He uses Daisuke’s eagerness to help and his attachment to Swansea to push him into danger.

Swansea delivers the fatal blow, but the circumstances distinguish that act from Jimmy’s choices. Jimmy pressures an inexperienced crewmate into a hazardous passage; Swansea faces the devastating aftermath and ends his suffering.

Daisuke’s death also destroys Swansea’s plan for the remaining cryogenic pod. The person he wanted to protect is gone before that escape can happen.

His Patterned Shirt, Hobbies, and Small Details

Daisuke’s patterned shirt gives him an individual look within a crew dressed in company clothing. His interest in fashion extends beyond the ship: he enjoys thrifting unusual vintage pieces and finding outfits other people are unlikely to own.

He also spends time at his local arcade, repeatedly trying machines he considers rigged. Those details give him an ordinary life beyond the internship—favorite places, personal tastes, and interests his parents do not entirely understand.

A few other details are easy to miss:

• Daisuke drew Yimpy, the doodle on the medical-room board.
• His patterned shirt required substantial texture work during development.
• His character model was rebuilt after a change in the model base.
• Martin performed Daisuke’s vocal sounds.

For collectibles and achievement hunters, there are two more details worth knowing:

• Daisuke is one of the game’s 18 Steam achievements.
• Daisuke Nendoroid pre-orders opened on July 17, 2026.
